Jonathan Israel: The Radical Enlightenment & Jewish Emancipation - Stroum Lectures 2017

Stroum Lectures 2017, die op 21 en 23 mei 2017 gegeven werden door Jonathan Israel [cf. dit blog van 23-12-2016], zijn op 20 juli op YouTube gezet [cf.]. ik haal ze hier binnen.

[I] Jonathan Israel on Spinoza as a Revolutionary [52:19]
This lecture was presented on May 21, 2017 as part of the annual Stroum Lecture series hosted by the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Washington, part of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies.
In the first lecture, Jonathan Israel outlines Spinoza’s key writings in favor of democracy and democratic republicanism – and against restrictive religious and state institutions – and explains how these writings were received by Spinoza’s contemporaries.

[II] Jonathan Israel -The Radical Enlightenment & Jewish Emancipation [1:05:14]
In the second lecture,  presented on May 23, 2017, Prof. Israel surveys some of the thinkers that took up Spinoza’s ideas and formed the “Radical Enlightenment” movement that pushed for universal rights and dignity for Jews and other marginalized groups.
